Hocheppan Castle Tavern

Hocheppan Castle Tavern

Hocheppan Castle offers plenty to satisfy hungry tummies. The landlord and landlady of the Castle Tavern, Peter and Anni, are happy to spoil you with traditional culinary treats. The focus in their kitchen is on different varieties of the typical South Tyrolean dish of dumplings, which are served in a medieval ambience outdoors. In addition, the hosts prepare other rustic dishes such as goulash, polenta, lasagne and the typical South Tyrolean “Brettlmarende”, a snack of cold cuts, cheese and bread served on a wooden platter. Eppan wines, which can also be enjoyed in the Castle Tavern, combine superbly with these dishes.

Autumn in South Tyrol is “Törggelen time”, where the year’s new wine is enjoyed throughout the region, including at Hocheppan Castle Tavern. In the past, this ancient custom saw all of those involved in the harvest being invited for a snack and to taste the new wine. Today hearty dishes such as cabbage, dumplings and smoked meat or homemade sausages are served. For dessert there are doughnuts and “Keschtn”, roast chestnuts with butter, with which the new wine tastes particularly good!
